The Open Space Committee advises the Township Committee on land acquisitions, such as dedication of easements on stream corridors and other critical areas, open space preservation and farmland preservation. The Open Space Committee developed a Recreation & Open Space Plan, which is updated periodically, and serves to identify areas targeted for preservation. The Committee regularly seeks grant opportunities for land acquisition and stewardship, and has created successful ongoing partnerships with State, County and non-profit agencies.
The Committee also advises the Township Committee on the appropriate development of open space properties through creation of pathways, parking areas and other amenities. As the amount of land acquired by the Township has increased, stewardship of preserved lands, such as reforestation, streambank restoration, and agricultural use has become a main focus.
