The Landmarks Commission is charged with identifying historic sites and structures within the Township, including a description of their defining characteristics. The Commission works with interested property owners to designate properties and/or structures as local historic sites. The Landmarks Commission’s role continues after sites are designated, by reviewing building permits for alteration to a locally-designated site, or a property located within a locally-designated historic district. The Commission may develop design guidelines for construction, alteration or demolition of structures that are locally designation, or located within a historic district.
The Landmarks Commission advises the Township on matters related to historic preservation, and may provide advice and information on nominations for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places.
